Plans hatched by Dr Sun Yat Sen and his supporters in Penang had far-reaching repercussions on the history of modern Asia.

DR SUN YAT SEN, the dashing anti-Qing campaigner and “Father of modern China” spent several intense months in 1910 planning the Canton Uprising which set in sequence a chain of events that would eventually topple China’s last dynasty. The uprising also encouraged and inspired the spread of democratic ideals throughout Asia.

A hundred years after this historic event, delegates from over 30 international Sun Yat Sen and Soong Ching Ling museums and memorial sites gathered for the 22nd Joint Conference in Penang. This marked the first time the conference had been held out of China.
