Dreaming in Malaysia

Dreaming in Malaysia
Indonesian workers taking a rest after work. There are approximately 30 migrant workers from Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nepal living in this village.

Migrant workers in Malaysia come from more than 12 Asian countries, with the majority from Indonesia. Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines also supply a large number. Most of them work in construction sites, factories and farms. Also, they are required to pay for their work permits, which can cost from about RM3,000 to RM9,000.

This is a huge investment for them, and their average wage while working in Malaysia is only about RM7 per hour for men and RM5 per hour for women.
