Home kitchens have long been pressed into service to supply food for sale, but how about going a step further and turning your home into an occasional restaurant?

The idea was immediately appealing to budding restaurateurs in Malaysia, and thus, Plate Culture was launched in June last year. What's not to like about it? It's a fun, low cost and risk-free way to test the waters.

Plate Culture is an Internet platform for diners to book and pay for meals at home kitchens listed on its website (www. plateculture.com). The kitchens are all verified by Plate Culture, which takes a transaction fee when a booking is made. It’s as easy as a few clicks, and diners are on their way to sup at a stranger’s home.
