A “Wholistic” Treat for the Health-Conscious Tourist

The popularity of medical tourism in Penang brings with it demands for post-treatment services, i.e. wellness and spa. That’s a need that Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa is fulfilling. Launched in late August, its two holistic wellness escape programmes target the global market – be they medical tourists or otherwise.

And what’s unique about Rasa Sayang is that it is partnering with local hospital Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH). The first resort within the northern region of Malaysia with such a concept, it also has an in-house nutritionist, Dr Yen Ang, who will advise on the overall wellness of guests. “It is my belief that many modern day illnesses can be prevented, managed or even reversed by making appropriate interventions to one’s lifestyle choices,” says Yen. “Based on strong scientific evidence, I have created a number of innovative and successful lifestyle intervention programmes and services, one of them being our highly acclaimed weight-management programme that targets major chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension through weight loss.”
