The Sights, Sounds and Smells of Butterworth are Getting Stronger

Times are changing fast in Butterworth. Once overlooked – not only by tourists, but locals as well – there is a newfound energy, a quickening and resurgence of interest in this town today. Think City, a community-focused urban regeneration organisation along with a few other passionate parties are encouraging new ventures and looking for proposals and ideas to put new heart into Butterworth.

Think City has so far organised three guided walks through Butterworth. This is to show that walking and taking life at a slower pace, even for just half a day, allows you to notice details and discover places that you would otherwise ignore.

Elephants. This beautiful wall mural is part of a collection that aims to breathe life back into one of the side lanes near Think City's offices. Look for the old Lodge 18 Hotel at Kampung Bagan Dalam to find it. Interesting fact: there were once so many elephants in this area that they were exported to Madras in India.
Gurdwara Sahib Butterworth. The Sikh community has been serving others through this Sikh temple on Jalan New Ferry since 1934. Always very community-minded, they gave us a warm welcome and breakfast during one of Think City’s Butterworth walks.
