PSDC Joins Hands with Lam Research to Remedy Skills Mismatches in Penang

THE GAP BETWEEN what we learn in school and its practical application is growing. At the same time, career possibilities in today’s highly digitalised world are increasing. The gig economy offers attractive flexibility in working hours, in contrast to the 40-hour week often required of permanent employees in offices and factories.

The resultant labour shortage and talent and skill gaps are of great concern, and addressing these challenges has become vital to the future of Penang’s economy.

In this light, the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) started the School-in-Factory Initiative to ensure continued talent supply for businesses. It equips candidates with relevant skill sets for optimal performance in specialised fields. The long-term goal is to contribute towards attaining a balanced ecosystem for the country’s industrial sector.
