How did you feel about the production by Five Arts Centre-Pocketsize Production of The Sandpit: Womensis?
I thought it was fairly faithful. Director Chee Sek Thim did a good job. He introduced some innovations – like music, which enhanced the theme and the anguish of the characters at certain points, and held the play together emotionally.
Audiences were very positive. Because this play takes you so much into the intimate lives of its characters, people watched it in a rapport of silence. And they did not laugh out of place.
Where did The Sandpit come from?
I can’t put my finger on the exact thing that triggered my need to write that play. Writers like to say: It’s there in the subconscious.
