The establishment of the region's first Shared Services Centre in Penang is geared towards rectifying certain bottlenecks in the state's path towards a knowledge economy. The road is not smooth, nor short.
WE NEED to move up the value chain to remain competitive; that much bears repeating. The urgency to distance ourselves from the sprouting economies of labor-intensive, lower-cost developing nations is obvious. And with the high concentration of technically advanced companies in Penang, brainstorming and identifying key issues associated with the future of the manufacturing and its related industries is not difficult.
The real challenge, in fact, lies in the implementation of the strategies proposed.
