Street trees are a vital element in a city’s landscape.
Besides helping to reduce greenhouse gases, improve air and water quality, and decrease urban heat, street trees play a diverse role in urban society, increasing community interaction, boosting property value, and providing shade for pedestrians.1
To manage and protect Penang’s street trees – something that needs to be considered at every stage in urban planning – a systematic tree inventory system is needed that is also easily accessed by relevant authorities.
